- Unassigned : At least one, and potentially other blocks have been assigned within the code, but the specific block is not assigned.
- an AOCN value: If a block has been assigned, the assigned block AOCN will be returned.
LIDB : Line Identification (Information) Database. Used to determine whether a telephone number may be billed for a call (Collect or Third Number) by indicating whether the number is a public station. Other uses include an indication that a number will accept all Collect calls, so it is not necessary to have an operator obtain agreement from the billed party.
LISP: LNP Intra-Service Provider Port. An "LNP Type" in the NPAC/SMS database that identifies an intra-service provider port. Literally, an intra-SPID port. Ports between different SPIDs, even if the SPIDs represent the same service provider are not intra-service provider ports. See LNP Type.
LNP : Local Number Portability. The FCC-ordered capability for a consumer to retain his number when changing service providers. Enables users to keep their telephone number and associated services when they switch telecommunications service providers. The "local" refers to the limited area of portability -- can't change the rate area associated with the telephone number -- not to a "local number." In other words, the first six digits of a telephone number reliably indicate the rate area associated with the number whether or not it has been ported.
LNP Type : The NPAC/SMS database classifies porting activity into three types:
- Type 1 - LSSP - inter-service provider port
- Type 2 - LISP - intra-service provider port
- Type 3 - POOL - a pooled number created as the result of create a thousand block
LRN: Location Routing Number. A 10 digit number used to uniquely identify a switch that has ported numbers. LRN utilizes AIN triggers, SS7 signaling, and unique 10 digit code for switch identification. The first six digits of the LRN are a valid NPA-NXX assigned to the switch that is serving the ported or pooled number. Calls to a non-ported number are routed based on the NPA-NXX of the dialed number. Calls to a ported number are routed instead based on the NPA-NXX of the ported number's associated LRN. See also pLRN.
LRN-TN : Identifies the TN's LRN value contained in the NPAC when the number is ported or pooled.
LRN-Block: Identifies the Block LRN value contained in the NPAC when the number is ported or pooled.
LSMS : Local Service Management System. The local service provider owned network database which holds downloaded ported number information. The mechanized system used (primarily) to receive LNP data from the NPAC/SMS.
LSP : Local Service Provider. A company that provides basic local telephone service.
LSPP: LNP Inter-Service Provider Port. An "LNP Type" in the NPAC/SMS database that identifies an inter-service provider port. (See LNP Type.)

NANP : North American Numbering Plan. A plan for the allocation of unique 10 digit telephone address number. The format is NXX-NXX-XXXX where N is any digit from 2-9 and X is any digit from 0-9. The format often is expressed as NPA-NXX-XXXX.
NANPA : North American Numbering Plan Administration. Responsible for the administration of the NANP numbering resources.
NANPA Code Owner : The service provider to which the NPA-NXX code is assigned by NANPA or the Pool Administrator.
NANPA OCN : The Operating Company Number in NANPA of the Service Provider that owns the NPA-NXX (code)
NANPA OCN Name : The name of the Service Provider that owns the NPA-NXX (code) in NANPA
Native TN : The term "Native TN" refers to a telephone number resident in the switch to which its NPA-NXX is assigned and thus can be called based on the dialed digits. These are TNs that are not in the NPAC and have been neither pooled nor ported. Native TNs that are in the NPAC are there for reasons other than call routing, either though an intra-SP port or using the pseudo-LRN capability. Example of Native telephone number in NPAC would be case where the number has been assigned to a wholesale customer and it is desired to display an altSPID value to identify that wholesale provider.
NPA : National Pooling Administration
NPA : Number Plan Area. The first three digits of the 10-digit destination number for all inter-NPA calls within the North American Numbering Plan Area. An NPA is always contained within the boundaries of a single state.

NPAC SPID : Number Portability Administration Center Service Provider Identification Number. A four-digit alpha-numeric value that identifies the owner of a record. Any entity that can create, modify, or delete NPAC data will have a SPID that is its OCN. A service bureau performs these actions on behalf of its service provider customers and might not itself have an OCN for use as a SPID. (See also OCN.)

NPA-NXX: The first six digits of a NANP telephone number (or of an LRN). The NPA-NXX is the address of the switch serving the telephone number. In a non-pooling area, the NPA-NXX code and the associated 10,000 numbers are assigned by the NANP. In a pooling area, the NPA-NXX code is assigned by the Pool Administrator (and separately from telephone number resources). (See also NANP.)
NPA-NXX-X: One thousand number block of telephone numbers within an NPA-NXX. See also Pooling Block.
NPB : Number Pool Block. See also Pooling Block.
NXX : Numbering Plan Area-Exchange data. Term used interchangeably with the central office code and refers to the fourth, fifth, and sixth digits of a 10-digit telephone number (N = 2-9, X = 0-9). In a portable environment the last 4 digits or the 7-digit telephone number may not always reside in the central office exchange to which the NXX was natively assigned.
